How did you get involved in the computer industry?
I knew someone who worked in a software company in Harrogate and hassled
him to get me an interview, which he did. They gave me a job, even though my
computer experience when I started was nil. Faith or what?
How many years have you been involved in working in the software industry ?
I've been working in the software industry now for just over two and a
half years.
What other titles have you worked on in the past?
I've worked on Worms reinforcements, Witchwood, Alien Breed 3d and Juggernaut.
Has the industry changed for better or worse since you first got involved?
The industry is in a constant state of flux due to ongoing hardware
advancement, and things are definetely more challenging, graphics-wise,
since I started. It would be nice though, to see some games combining
absorbing and intelligent gameplay with cutting-edge 3d graphics.
Which other developers do you admire and why?
I admire anyone who can produce highly original, interesting games that
actually play well.
What hardware do you use to do your graphics ?
We used Lightwave 4.0 running on Pentium P-150,s.
Have you used any special techniques ?
We used the Zen whobrie art of facet-planing, to give our polys the sheen
of steel.
How is concept artwork transformed into end graphics?
Design sketches are built in Lightwave modeller as 3d models, which are
then lit and textured in Layout, where they are animated in individual
scenes. These scenes are then edited together to produce the finished
front-end.
What have been your favourite games ?
Doom.
As the Audi ad say's "the places you go, the people you meet, the clothes
you wear ?" what car do you own then ?
I don't own a car because I don't drive. Cars don't interest me. Guitars,
on the other hand...
If you had to be stranded in a lift, who would it be with, and why ?
As I'm claustrophobic, I'd have to be stranded with an excellent lift
repair man. Failing that, Geri Halliwell of the Spice Girls. We would
discuss quantum mechanics, obviously.
Hey I had to ask, which are your favourite movies ?
Bladerunner and Groundhog Day.
Hey I had to ask this as well, what's your favourite type music ?
Melodic, guitarry stuff, like Be-Bop Deluxe or Radiohead.
Do you think the Spice Girls represent an accurate portrayal of English
women in the C20th ?
No.
Do you think that games can influence oneās decisions in life?
I think that if you let games influence life-decisions you need serious
professional help.
Apart from games, what are the other loves in your life?
My four guitars, Mesa-Boogie amp, my cat, scuzzy and my fiance, Jan. Not
necessarily in that order, mind you. |
